This is not a funny book…but, you will find yourself chuckling through the prologue, and other passages as Mr. Chandler narrates his fictionalized memoir. This is not a sad book…but, you will find yourself shedding a tear as the author recounts his personal struggle with heartbreak (times two) and his unusual journey navigating life from childhood through adolescence on to adulthood. This is not a self-help book…but, you will draw inspiration from its pages as Mr. Chandler transitions from suicidal desperation to self-awareness, self-respect and resiliency. This could be anyone’s story. But, it is not. It is Mr. Chandler’s, and he has told it simply and beautifully, maybe in part for his own benefit, but certainly for the greater good of those fortunate enough to pick it up.This is Mr. Chandler’s first book, but it is not his last. He has only whetted our appetite for what comes next.

Progress Report on “I Miss Your Purple Hair”

The new novel is coming along nicely, on schedule as close to my expectations as possible. It is in preliminary draft stage, and as of this writing (3/17/09) I am embarking upon the opening to Chapter 16. The book, when completed, will most likely be 23 chapters long. That is subject to change, as I am a long-winded writer who is constantly embellishing.

I hope to have the first draft completed by May 1st, and then begins the editing process, although my Editor is already working steadily, from the Prologue forward, which will shave the editing time considerably. I, too , have been editing as I write, a new technique with which I feel very comfortable.

The encouragement from a small number of friends ahs been very much appreciated. I hope to deliver something worthy of their support. Stay tuned…

Another Positive Review of “Minus the Imple”

Minus the Imple is a powerful story of coming of age, maturity, and perfectly normal, every-day beauty. The conversational voice telling the story reflects the simple, playful tone of a child narrating early years, moving into that of an adult with accumulated years of life experiences.

The uplifting nature of this book comes from its roots in the all too common realities of loss, despite which the author finds happiness through love and simplicity.

This story, not fanciful or embellished, is refreshingly engaging and honest, shedding light on the dark places in many of our lives, and highlighting a framework of friendships and trust that prove indispensable.

Minus the Imple is a brilliant piece of storytelling, showing the magic and wonder in an ordinary life.

New Review of Minus the Imple

Minus the Imple 20 Oct 2008

This book is fantastic! I truly enjoyed reading it, and found that I could relate to, one way or another, many of the situations, experiences and emotions so perfectly described in this book. I encourage Mr. Chandler to keep writing.
Knowing this is a fictionalized true story, I found myself wondering what was fictionalized and what was true.
This is a great story, you will enjoy reading it!

Minus the Imple (1 Jul 2008)

The book is great. Once you start reading, you can not put it down. This book moved me, it touched my heart. The more I read the more I felt a kinship with the author, a validation of my own experiences. I could relate to his joys and his heartaches. I would highly recommend this book.

ArtistFirst Radio to Interview Robert Chandler on Wednesday, June 18th at 8 PM

Tony Kay is the host for a long-running Internet Radio show dedicated to getting exposure for musicians and authors, in particular new authors. The show is broadcast “live” and then is archived on the ArtistFirst website. A file copy of the interview in MP3 format is also later provided to each guest, so we can share the 52-minute broadcast with the world after the fact. Find ArtistFirst Radio here: http://www.artistfirst.com/

This interview will be my first ever and the length of time is somewhat daunting, but I’m excited to finally be able to share some of the back-story with fans and potential fans of the book. This journey of writing, editing, publishing and promoting has been a wonderfully enjoyable (if not profitable) exercise. For me, it is a great learning experience and it has been great to find that I can be bluntly honest in my depiction of some intimate episodes of my life, and readers are embracing and reacting to that honesty as I had always hoped. The book is also providing me with so many paths to connect to people in meaningful ways. And, in the process, I have learned more about my own beliefs and values.

Please consider tuning in and help spread the word about Minus the Imple. The phenomenon is spreading.

Minus the Imple: Inspirational Novel Now Available Worldwide!

Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Minus the Imple: Inspirational Novel Now Available Worldwide!

ROCHESTER, NY – Minus the Imple is a new novel, billed as a ‘fictionalized true story’, available now on all the major online retail booksellers, including Barnes & Noble (www.bn.com) and Amazon (www.amazon.com). The largely autobiographical tale is the debut novel by Rochester, NY author Robert R. Chandler.

The inspirational tale of Minus the Imple traces the life of a humble man from early childhood to the present day, and recounts the recurring unexplainable phenomena that punctuate his experiences. Written in an accessible style reminiscent of J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, this is a true story about hitting rock bottom and battling back. It’s also a story about finding yourself and acknowledging the undeniable power of love.

“I’ve labeled it a ‘fictionalized true story’ because I want to be accurate in depicting the book’s two best features,” Chandler explains. The story is largely a memoir, according to the 50-something author, but names and actual venues have been changed and some elements of fantasy have been added for entertainment value. “The names of the characters have been changed, but all are based upon people who have greatly influenced me over the course of my life,” he adds. “I’ve bounced back from my lowest point to reclaim my identity and rebuild my life. Perhaps you’ve been there yourself, and know how it feels to be abandoned and alone.”

This novel (268 pages; ISBN# 978-0-6151-9772-2; Lulu.com ID #2035657), inspired by a random incident that occurred in 2002, has been a work-in-progress since 2004 and is now ready to be shared with the world. Minus the Imple is the first offering from Privileged Publishing, and is also directly available through Lulu at: http://www.lulu.com/content/2035657

Contribute YOUR anecdotes for possible inclusion in upcoming book!

Your anecdotes and stories can be part of an upcoming book I am working on! The theme is “coincidence” and I would like to invite you and your friends to contribute true stories for possible inclusion in the upcoming novel. There will be true stories about “coincidences” included (in a format/style as yet undetermined), possibly woven around a fictional tale, related to the general theme.

I am embarking upon a period of research and am gathering up anecdotes by many people. Your actual name(s) will never be published, but your stories may very well be included in this upcoming project. I cannot offer any monetary payments, but the possibility of one day seeing your story in print might be an enticing possibility.

Please check out the page on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=31125896304), and feel free to make multiple posts over time, and share the page with your friends and relatives.

Many thanks for your interest.
-Robert R. Chandler

P.S.- If you prefer to send anecdotes concerning “coincidence” directly to Robert R. Chandler, email them (include all details and your MUST include your name) to: mrdizz@rochester.rr.com

By sending an email or posting to the web page, you are indicating that you relinquish all rights to the information to Robert R. Chandler, and agreeing that he may edit the content for style and length as necessary.

Minus the Imple Goes WORLD-WIDER!

Finally, we have Minus the Imple available through major online booksellers, such as the following sites (and most are reasonably priced):

Barnes & Noble:

Amazon.com:

Even more sites already are selling the book, in addition to Lulu.com, of course. The least expensive place to buy it is still Lulu, but now there are some alternatives that should help reach a much broader audience.

Please help spread the word to friends and potential readers, and you can tell them there are multiple sites that carry the book. Sales are still slow, but I have high hopes that things can improve, now that there are alternate sites carrying the book.

Thanks much for all the help.

PEACE,
Bob Chandler
